When people think of cherry blossoms, Japan usually comes to mind first. However, Taiwan is also an ideal destination for admiring the beauty of these delicate flowers. Cherry blossoms in Taiwan bloom earlier than in Japan, typically from January to March. The peak blooming time varies by region, elevation, and weather conditions. Visitors should monitor blossom forecasts to plan their trip accordingly.
Cherry Blossom Season – Ideal Time to Visit Taiwan
Cherry blossoms are a symbol of spring and one of Taiwan’s most famous tourist attractions. If you have the chance to visit Taiwan in spring, take time to admire the beauty of cherry blossoms and breathe in the fresh, invigorating spring air. The cherry blossom season in Taiwan is quite short, lasting only about 1–2 weeks. Therefore, visitors should plan their trip early to catch the blossoms at their peak.
The Most Beautiful Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots
Taiwan has many places to view cherry blossoms, from major cities to high mountain areas. Some of the most famous spots include:
- Yangmingshan National Park: Yangmingshan National Park is one of the most beautiful cherry blossom viewing destinations in Taiwan. Located about 20 km from central Taipei, Yangmingshan attracts visitors with its majestic natural scenery, cool climate, and especially its spectacular cherry blossom season each spring. The park has over 20,000 cherry trees of various varieties, creating a dazzling spectacle. The cherry blossom season at Yangmingshan typically runs from January to March, though the peak blooming time varies by year and weather conditions. Visitors should monitor blossom forecasts to plan accordingly.
- Sun Moon Lake: Famous for its poetic and romantic natural scenery, Sun Moon Lake becomes even more enchanting during cherry blossom season, with rows of blooming cherry trees lining the lakeshore.
- Wuling Farm: Situated at 2,000 meters above sea level, Wuling enjoys a cool climate year-round. In spring, the entire farm is adorned with blooming cherry forests, creating a truly impressive landscape.
- Jiuzu Cultural Village: Home to Taiwan’s indigenous peoples, the village offers visitors a chance to explore its surroundings while admiring cherry trees in bloom amid a rustic, pristine setting.
I had the opportunity to visit Wuling Farm last February, right during the peak cherry blossom season. When I arrived, I was truly overwhelmed by the beauty of the place. Cherry trees were blooming brilliantly everywhere, creating an incredibly romantic atmosphere. I strolled beneath the cherry blossoms, took photos, and breathed in the fresh, crisp spring air.
Beyond the cherry blossoms, Wuling Farm has many other wonderful things to explore. You can tour the tea garden, where lush green tea plants stretch as far as the eye can see, or go trekking along winding trails through the cherry forests.
Here are some travel tips for Wuling Farm that I’d like to share:
- The best time to visit Wuling Farm is in spring, from February to April, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
- Book accommodation in advance, as Wuling Farm receives very large crowds during cherry blossom season.
Additionally, Miaoli (about 100 km from Taipei), Taoyuan, and Chiayi — which enjoys a later spring than other parts of Taiwan — are also popular cherry blossom destinations.
Chiayi is home to the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, famous for its lush pine forests and winding trails. During cherry blossom season, the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area becomes incredibly picturesque, with cherry petals scattered throughout.
Since reopening for tourism in October 2022, Taiwan has fully restored its pre-pandemic visa policies, including e-visas for Vietnamese visitors. Travelers can therefore enter Taiwan conveniently and easily. However, some visa types are no longer valid when applying for a Taiwan e-visa — you can find out more here.

If You Miss Cherry Blossom Season in Taiwan
Outside of cherry blossom season, visitors can head to Yangmingshan National Park to see calla lilies or hydrangeas that bloom in April. Calla lilies, with their pure white color, exude elegant and pristine beauty. They typically bloom in April and May, creating a wonderfully romantic scene throughout the park.
Hydrangeas are also a popular flower among visitors to Taiwan in April, coming in many colors including pink, blue, purple, and white — creating a vibrant and impressive picture.
Beyond flower viewing, there are many other activities to enjoy while traveling in Taiwan, such as visiting historical sites: Taiwan has many ancient historical and cultural landmarks like the Presidential Office, Longshan Temple, and Rainbow Village.
Experience Taiwanese culture: Visitors can participate in traditional festivals, enjoy local cuisine, and shop for souvenirs.
